Visit Drayton Hall Plantation
We provide convenient transportation to Drayton Hall, located off the peninsula on the Ashley River Corridor.
Construction on the estate began in 1738 and was completed after four years by European and enslaved African American craftsmen. The 350-acre property was John Drayton’s showpiece and the center of the family’s commercial plantation empire. Countless enslaved Africans, Native Americans & their descendants grew rice & indigo for European exportation plus raised cattle & pigs that were shipped to the Caribbean. The plantation house is the only one that’s open to the public that was built in the 18th century & survived 2 great wars and various natural disasters.

This is a 3-Hr. trip, cost includes: transportation, light commentary by your guide en route, plantation admission, a staff-guided house tour, the history program Connections: From Africa to America, self-guided landscape and nature walks, entrance to the 18th century African American cemetery and entrance to the exhibit center.
Visit McLeod Plantation
We also provide convenient transportation to McLeod Plantation on James Island.
The McLeod family bought the 1693-acre cotton plantation in 1851. Presently 37 acres, the site interprets the culture and history of both communities who impacted the property through the generations, with an emphasis on the African American experience. Six surviving former slave dwellings interpret the lives of the enslaved & the emancipated residents & their descendants.

This is a 3-Hr. trip, cost includes: transportation, light commentary by your guide en route, plantation admission, a staff-guided tour & a visit to Burn Churchyard Cemetery to view the memorial to Mr. Samuel Smalls aka “Porgy,” the inspiration for the character of the same name in the well-known opera Porgy & Bess.
